Possibility of production for potentially useful non standard positron emitter reubidium-81 / Hafiz Hassan Latif

Summary: This study has been carried out to compile and to find the best production route for the production of by 81Rb comparing the cross section data of different charged particle induced(reactions induced by p,d,3He and α) on 112Sn,118Sn,120Sn, 124Sn, 79Br, 81Br, natKr, 80Kr,82Kr,83Kr ,93Nb,Zn, and Ga target. The radioisotope 81Rb has long been known to be the ideal properties for treating the disease, especially cancer. The lower betaemitter, with a half-life of 4.6 hours, has excellent chemical properties that can be used as a radio immunotherapy. We have studied total thirty two reactions for the production of 81Rb reactions. Out of which we have selected total seven reaction namely 79Br(a,2n)81Rb,81Br(a,4n)81Rb, natKr(p,x)81Rb, natkr(d,x)81Rb,80kr(d,n)81Rb,82kr(p,2n)81Rb, 83kr(p,3n)81Rb, 93Nb(p,x)81Rb, 112Sn(p,x)81Rb reaction, on account of their suitability to use in diagnostic and therapeutic applications. The reactions which are not suitable for diagnostic and therapeutic application nat Rb(p,x)81Rb,because of the radio isotopic impurities cannot be separated chemically from the final product. The given heavy particle induced reactions name112Sn(12c,x)81Rb,1H(197Au,F)81Rband many of them like that reaction , not suitable for the production of 81Rb because they give product of multi channel that may be difficult to handle at the same time and also due to the higher energy which are not reliable of their use in diagnostic and therapeutic applications. For medical Application we use prefer those reactions which gives higher resection at low energy cyclotron. The experimental data for all the selected reactions were taken from IAEA on line data source EXFOR. For comparison the excitation function’s of all selected reactions were plotted using ORIGN software, by using their experimental information reliability of the data were checked with each other and on the basis of their Q-values and threshold. From above given reactions two reactions 82Kr(p,2n)81Rb and 68Zn(p,2p)67Cu are looking more reliable for the production of 81Rb. In these reactions the energy is low and cross-section is high; so they can be continently produced within the hospital using low energy cyclotrons. Experimental data of selected charged particle induced reactions were critically analyzed and compared to achieve best production route for 81Rb Finally we suggested reaction 82Kr(p,2n)81Rb as the best reaction because of its higher cross section at low energie
