Summary: The spent nickel catalyst was collected from local ghee industry from Okara, Punjab province. Collected material oil was separated by the use of n-hexane. Spent nickel catalyst is being disposed of in the soil which not only causing soil pollution but also water pollution. The current study was designed to utilize the spent nickel catalyst from Ghee industry for valuable product. Spent nickel catalyst contain 19-21 % nickel, which was extracted by mineral acid reaction. Salts prepared from waste spent nickel catalyst were analyzed on atomic absorption spectrophotometer for their purity and its comparison was made with their pure salts. The percentage purity of nickel sulphate is 90.01%, nickel nitrate 90.18 % and 92.14 %. As nickel salts frequently used in the electroplating and currently all material is being imported. This study may open the way for proper utilization of spent nickel catalyst and may be helpful in reducing the import of nickel salts, which are frequently used for electroplating.
