Ovarian Cancer and Some Epidemological Factors: A Hospital Based Study /Arooba Rafaqat - Lahore : Department of Zoology, Div. S&T University of Education, 2018 - 95 p. vi CD

Ovarian tumor is the sixth most basic cancer that occurs in females and is the main source of death. The goal of present examination was the determination of epidemiological components like history of breast and ovarian tumor, age, menstrual history, diabetes, diet and CA125 levels (carbohydrate antigen 125, biomarker, of ovarian cancer). 200 patients were interviewed, after getting consent, on a structured questionnaire. In addition, serum CA125 levels were studied through ELISA test in 54 patients with ovarian cancer and 35 age-matched healthy controls. CA125 provides useful information about the status of the disease in patients which are under treatment. Our findings showed that 50% of the patients were analyzed at the age of 45 years, while 75% patients were 53years old when diagnosed. . Early menarche and late menopause were the major epidemiological factors emerged from our study. In the present study 15% of patients had ovarian cancer running in their relatives and 20% of patients had breast cancer in their families. Further, 3% patients of OC had breast cancer in their past. Diabetes was found associated with the ovarian cancer, 39.5% of OC patients were diabetic. Many patients underwent different treatment options like Hysterectomy (69.5%), radiography (39%) and chemotherapy (95%). The CA125 values were significantly higher (p=0.034) in the case patients compared with the control group. The results further showed that 52% of the patients with OC were correctly diagnosed as having OC, while 83% of those without OC were correctly diagnosed (with 48% of OC patients and 17% of non-OC patients incorrectly diagnosed). This concluded that CA 125 is poor test which has moderate sensitivity and specificity. Key Words: OC, CA125, ELISA, diabetes, age, hysterectomy, radiography, chemotherapy
