In current research work nanocrystalline thin films of ZnO are prepared without seed
layers on bare glass substrates and study their optical properties by cost effective
technique that is Chemical Bath Deposition (CBD). Chemical Bath Deposition has
been developed close by using mixing water bath. Structural properties studied
through XRD indication that the ZnO nanorods have preferred alignment along c-axis
because the most intense peak is at (002) reflection. From XRD pattern, average
crystalline size is estimated to be 41.00 nm, texture coefficient is 5.24 and lattice
constants “a” and “c” have the values 9 and 9 It was found that ZnO
nanorods have a strong absorption at about 3.58 at wave length of 320 nm that
denigrates as increased wave length. 3.33 eV Band gap value was observed from
optical absorption graph. The band gap is found to be higher 3.88 eV showing red
shift. Optical properties of ZnO nanorods are also discussed along with a final
viewpoint for research into the optical properties of ZnO. This research work will be a
step forward towards growth of aligned ZnO nanorods without prior deposition of
ZnO seed layer. The investigated results would weigh out the possibilities to
incorporate such nano-rods in sensor, solar cells and other optoelectronic.
