Prevalence of Coronary Artery Disease on the Patients of Services Hospital Lahore /Syeda Ifra Rubab

Summary: The proportion of individuals in a population having a disease or characteristics is the prevalence of that disease. Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a leading cause of death of women and men worldwide. For studying the prevalence of CAD, Services Hospital, Lahore was selected for data collection. A questionnaire was designed to get the information about patient’s name, gender, age, cast, family history and presence of risk factors that include (Hypertension, Diabetes mellitus, Cholesterol and Smoking). In women Post-menopausal and Pre-menopausal history was also be examined. During the 6 months it is estimated that total 60,000 patients visited in the hospital, 810 patients were registered in Cardiology Department, out of which 495 patients were suffering from coronary artery disease. Thus the prevalence of Coronary artery disease is about 0.82% and the prevalence of coronary artery disease in cardio-logical disorders is about 61.1%. This study shows prevalence of CAD is higher among men (82.83%) as compared to women (17.17%). In case of menopausal history there is a high prevalence among post-menopausal group (94.12%) as compared to pre-menopausal group (5.88%) of women. In case of age groups, 31-40years group show least prevalence in Male patients and 61-70 years group shows maximum prevalence in Male patients where as in Female patients 31-40years group show least prevalence and 41-50years group shows maximum prevalence. Among all risk factors, cholesterol is the most risky factor i.e. 30.30%. Prevalence among patients related to different cast shows that Arian cast has more patients i.e. 20.20%. This study will help to adopt preventive measures of CAD through public awareness. It will help in CAD management.
