Chalcones possess a broad spectrum of biological activities and changes in their structure have offered high degree of diversity that has proven useful for the development of new medicinal agents having improved potency, lesser toxicity and good pharmacological actions. 2'-hydroxy-chalcones were synthesized by using Claisen Schmidt condensation method. Their respective molecular tweezers were prepared by refluxing 2'-hydroxy-chalcones with p-phenylene-diamine. Host-guest complexation was observed by the reaction of 2'-hydroxy-chalcone based molecular tweezers with various metal salts.
