520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc The Schiff base ligand, and its metal complexes were designed and collected from
Chemistry department as potential antimicrobial agents, and bioactivity could be
determined following in vitro assays against human pathogens. The broth dilution method
was used to determine percent antibiosis. Ten testing compounds were diluted up to
1.5mg/ml. Ciprofloxacin was used as positive control. The compounds exhibited
moderate to good percent antibiosis against Escherichia coli (44.48-99.73), Pseudomonas
aeruginosa (31.4-99.28), Staphylococcus aureus (27.12-99.68) and Klebsiella sp. (39.53-
99.84). Bis((N1Z,N2Z)-N1,N2-dibenzylideneethane-1,2-diamine)plumbum(II)acetate
(MS-84) showed better antibiotic potential against four pathogens (Escherichia coli,
Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella sp. with the percent
antibiosis ranging from 81.22-99.39. Controversially, 3,3'-((1Z,1'Z)-(ethane-1,2-
diylbis(azanylylidene))-bis(methanylylidene))diphenolcopper(II) (MS-80) inhibited two
pathogens (Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella sp. with less than 20% antibiosis while
showed better antibiotic activity (>90) against other two pathogens (Staphylococcus
aureus, Escherichia coli. Two designed Schiff bases i-e MS-84 and MS-80 will be
promising therapeutant to be used in pharmaceutical industry.
Key words:- Divalent metal complexes, Schiff base ligands, antibacterial activity, Broth
dilution method, Human pathogens, antibiosis.
