Microbicidal activity of metallic derivatives of amines

Aqsa Liaqat, BS Zoology, 2015-2019, Supervised by Dr. Asma Chaudhary

Microbicidal activity of metallic derivatives of amines / Aqsa Liaqat - Lahore : Division of Science & Technology, University of Education, 2019 - xi, 60 p. CD

The prepared compounds were evaluated in vitro for their antimicrobial activity against
pathogenic bacteria Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomanas aeruginosa
and Klebsiella sp. by broth dilution method. Schiff bases and its derivatives as well as
Ciprofloxacin as positive control were diluted upto 1.5mg/ml. These compounds
exhibited bactericidal activities against Escherichia coli (22.04% - 99.48%),
Pseudomanas aeruginosa (21.25% - 99.51%), Staphylococcus aureus (22.67% - 99.38%)
and Klebsiella sp. (20.46% - 99.35%). Bis((E)-2-((phenylimino)methyl)phenol)zinc(II)
(AS-64) showed better antibiotic potential (>99%) against four pathogens E. coli, S.
aureus, P. aeruginosa and Klebsiella.sp. Bis((Z)-2-(((4,6-dimethylpyrimidin-2-
yl)imino)methyl)phenol)copper(II) (MS-69) exhibited better bactericidal activity (>99%)
against three pathogens E. coli, S. aureus and Klebsiella sp. while compound showed
moderate activity (<50%) against P. aeruginosa, Contrary, Bis((E)-2-
((phenylimino)methyl)phenol)plumb(II) (AS-63) performed poor bactericidal activity
(<30%) against three pathogens E. coli, P. aeruginosa and Klebsiella sp. , whereas best
activity (>99%) was observed against S. aureus. The testing compounds will be
considered as a promising and potential antibacterial agent, to be used as better drug
candidate in the future.
Key words: Schiff base ligand, Amines metallic derivatives, Bactericidal potential,
Susceptibility testing, Percent inhibition.
