Higher education enrollment trends and job opportunities: Comparison between prospects and realities in Pakistan / Muhammad Mukhtyar - Lahore : Okara Campus, University of Education, 2021, - 223 p. CD.

This research aims to explore the trend of enrollment in higher education and
their corresponding job opportunities in Pakistan. The research was quantitative in
nature and based on enrollment data (2012-17) from 27 universities, job
advertisement data (2012-17) from four newspapers, students’ perceptions of their
future job and students’ employment data. The multistage, stratified, purposive, and
random sampling techniques were used to collect the data from different sections of
the population. Descriptive as well as the inferential statistics was used for the
analysis of the data. The results showed that the higher enrollment trend was in the
subjects of Natural Sciences. Similarly, the majority of jobs were advertised for the
field of Natural Sciences and fewer for the Social Sciences. There was no relationship
found between the fields of study and job advertisements. On the other hand, the
students’ perceived jobs were not relevant to their areas of study and on-job graduates
were not working in the areas of their specialization.
